This year I have decided to participate in the Nation Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org). I have been aware of this for the past two years but have always been in the middle of editing a novel for publication and felt I did not have the time. This year is different. I have basically taken most of the year off from writing and now find myself ready to start writing again.
We had a local NaNoWriMo kickoff last night at the Black Bear Diner and I was surprised at how many people showed up. There were about 40 authors there. It was great to talk with other authors and hear about what they are writing about and their experiences. There was one lady I talked to who writes Horror and Romance. I never imaged those two being paired up but after being married for 30 years, I guess I can't be completely surprised. (hehe)
For my first NaNoWriMo, I will be writing a novel called: Legacy's Child (or maybe Legacy's Child: Pearl's Revelation). In my mind, I have this and three more books in the series laid out. This will be different for me as my usually writing time is in the seat of an airplane (I travel for my day job), however, I am not traveling this month. I will have to develop habits of writing at home, with all its distractions. The total goal is 50,000 words (minimum). That works out to just 1613 words per day. However, 1) I will probably not be writing every day (although it would be a nice habit to get into), and 2) I probably will go longer than 50,000 words.
